Challenge
Individuals passionate about marine life often feel powerless to help, while marine biologists lack sufficient tracking data on whales, dolphins, and porpoises. The goal was to design a mobile app that bridges this gap, enabling everyday citizens to contribute directly to research and conservation efforts.
ROLE
UX/UI Designer leading end-to-end product strategy and design, leveraging background knowledge as a former Marine Mammal Center education docent. Conducted user and expert research, structured information architecture, and created wireframes, branding, and an interactive prototype.
Result
Delivered a validated high-fidelity app prototype and pitch presentation that turned complex scientific tracking into a simple, engaging citizen-science experience.
The Solution at a Glance
Cetazen makes it easy for anyone to help marine biologists track whales, dolphins, and porpoises. By streamlining sighting reports into three intuitive steps — capture, identify, and submit - the app turns everyday sightings into real data for ocean conservation.
Key Insights & Research
Marine enthusiasts want to help, but existing tools feel too complicated for a quick moment. Talking to ocean lovers and marine experts helped map out what really drives community action.
